A firm foundation in life drawing has been vital to all of my visual work. In the relentless exercise of translating the human form into a series of marks on a page, I have learned the process and theory of abstraction in a very concrete manner. My way of seeing has evolved with time, and it was through studying life drawing that I first began to process visual relationships in a way that extended beyond mere representation.
My current non-representational work has a firm basis in life drawing; much of my visual work begins with sketches directly from life that are then manipulated or re-interpreted.
