LANDSCAPE 3: AERIAL PERSPECTIVE [2009]
Format: Graphic score
Duration: 20:00
About the project
Landscape 3: Aerial Perspective is one of a series of graphic scores investigating the relationship between two dimensional visual representations of landscape and sonic performance, graphically providing a loose set of parameters for sonic improvisation.
The work takes the concept of aerial perspective as its model, and attempts to act as both a sonic and visual representation of this technique which aids landscape artists in the representation of vast space. As objects recede in the distance, their edges become blurred and their color shifts towards blue; this graphic score does exactly the same, its forms receding in space to coincide with the performers' reduction in volume.
An image of the score is shown below. The complete score contains detailed notes for the performers to aid in their interpretation of the score. The score also calls for a field recording to be played during its performance. Included below is a link to a high quality mp3 of the field recording. It is my hope to continue creating source recordings for this score, developing a library of recordings which may be chosen from or combined during performances.
